Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Global Vendor Manager is to manage the sourcing, selection, onboarding and procurement strategy of vendors through strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and end to end vendor management.  They are the primary resource, subject matter expert, trainer and process owner of the vendor relationship in ensuring a diverse and appropriate vendor based for the organization.
  • Manages the sourcing of related goods and services, and heads a cross-functional team in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and renewals.
  • Develops the vendor and organization category strategy, working with the management team, and assures uninterrupted supplies of materials and services.
  • Sets department goals, analyses, and negotiates costs to meet company goals and expectations, and executes demand planning with supply chain to ensure capacities meet volume forecasts.
  • Focuses on total cost of ownership, risk mitigation, business case modeling, strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management.
  • Maintains compliance with company and government regulations and best practice standards.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to cross-functional teams through complete-cycle sourcing projects, including project planning and management, analysis and sourcing strategy development, supplier evaluation and selection, contract negotiation, and implementation.
  • Develops and implements innovative solutions to resolve complex issues and executes advanced organizational readiness change management strategies.
  • Establishes the development of standards and metrics, practices and procedures, client satisfaction measurement, standardized processes and continuous improvement initiatives that achieve synergies and maximize return on equity.
  • Liaises between the supply chain, operations and other functions.
  • Negotiates time and actions from vendors to reduce lead times and support strategies.
  • Assesses work streams and activities for consolidation opportunities.
  • Assesses current and future business processes for best work practices and technological fit based on external market and industry practices.
  • Establishes sourcing and vendor management policies and procedures and directs programs.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing Director to negotiate and award supplier contracts with a holistic approach which includes service, quality, sustainability, terms and price
  • Serve as the point of contact for supply issues, understanding the issue in detail and proactively providing potential solutions and internal and/or external corrective actions
  • Ensure successful implementation of supplier contracts, collaborate with suppliers to ensure seamless material flow and drive continuous improvement of cost, quality and service
  • Develop strong supplier relationships and working knowledge of supplier’s processes
  • Develop collaborative relationships with supplier partners to champion strategic change
  • Hires, trains new staff members, and supervises and evaluates job performance.
  • Develops and agrees on annual cost savings targets.
  • Work cross functionally to reduce expenses and improve efficiencies – challenge “status quo”
  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferablyin Business, Supply Chain or Finance or equivalent background
  • Eight+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, risk mitigation, contract management, negotiation and relationship management.
  • Proven ability to lead internal and external stakeholders indirectly to achieve cost, service quality, and time to market commitments
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to form and articulate valid conclusions
  • Ability to quickly derive data-driven insights and make decisions based on those insights
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain and Manufacturing efficiencies
  • Ability to communicate and interface proficiently on computer, phone, and in person to work cross functionally within multiple departments
  • Ability to work independently with directional supervision
  • Excellent computer skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to influence and be persuasive
  • Aptitude for understanding manufacturing and laboratory needs
  • Advanced organization skills and excellent follow-up skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast paced environment

  • Intermediate proficiency with ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; APICS certification a plus
